
Jazmine Sullivan is a native of in and raised within Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam her mother is a former back-up singer at Philadelphia International Records. At the age of five the father of her was appointed to be one of the cities' Historic Strawberry Mansion curator. Their family eventually moved to the historic mansion. In 2005, a Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts graduated She is an instructor in the area of vocal. Sullivan began her singing career as a contralto in the children's choir, then a few years later in the adult choir. Sullivan's exposure to secular music was at first limited "I had solo performances in church and someone wanted me to join a gospel label when I was 11, but I was not prepared to sign that contract," she recalls. "Then when McDonald's had a competition for youngsters in the major cities, I got a chance to sing 'Accept What God Allows' on It's Showtime in the Apollo and the audience were very supportive". Stevie Wonder sang her part when he turned 13. Sullivan made her first signing to Jive Records when she was 15. When she was 15 she signed with Jive Records. The label recorded her entire album there, but it didn't get released. Sullivan was eventually dropped at the hands of the company. They had a strong working relationship and Missy Elliott. Elliott produced some of her tracks which included "Backstabbers" that was produced by Timbaland.
